OAKLAND, California—A store owner, who witnessed a robbery outside their business, opened fire on multiple suspects in Oakland’s Chinatown Monday evening, according to Fox 2 KTVU.
The robbery happened at 9th and Franklin streets around 6 p.m. in Oakland’s Chinatown.
The victim was a Caucasian woman in her 30s. A member of the community told KTVU the store owner saw the group of thieves knock the woman down and tried to steal her camera. The store owner intervened and during a struggle, he fired four shots.
Oakland PD later confirmed no one was hit and the suspects got away in a vehicle. The Caucasian woman was not seriously hurt. There is no suspect or vehicle description at this time.
Initial reports of the store owner hitting two of the suspects were wrong. No rounds on suspects.
The area has been the focus of much attention due to a recent crime wave that has seen elderly Asian-Americans being targeted.
Members of Asians With Attitudes immediately rushed to the scene where they rendered aid to the woman who was visibly shaken and distraught. Video footage was uploaded on their Instagram page but was taken down shortly after due to legal reasons and the store owner fearing reprisals.
