BAYVIEW DISTRICT, San Francisco—Chiling Lee was walking home late Saturday night from his job in the postal service when he was stabbed five times. One of several anti-Asian attacks in the area within a 48 hour period, according to ABC7.
He was stabbed once in the head, in the chest, twice in the stomach, and once in the hand. Lee also has a punctured lung, a broken rib and is still fearful for his life, reports ABC7’s Dion Lim.
Lee’s wife, Dong Sun, stated her husband and son tried to fight the attacker off but the assailant still got away with Lee’s backpack.
“My son tried to chase the guy, so I’m so worried he had a knife and may have a gun,” Dong said. Lee points to his broken phone and told Dion Lim how he used one hand to grab the man’s hair, while his left used his iPhone to hit the suspect’s eyes and nose.
Lee said the attack happened very quickly. “I didn’t pay attention (while walking)…The guy came and attacked me,” he said.

The identity of the attacker has not been disclosed. While Lee deals with a punctured lung and emotional trauma, others who live in the area have been attacked as well.
About 24 hours after Lee’s attack, 61 and 71-year-old Asian women were attacked and robbed in the area of Bacon and Holyoke and Somerset. One incident was at gunpoint, reports ABC7.
Lee hopes he can save up enough money to buy a car so he won’t have to take the bus and walk home at night. His family is also considering moving out of the neighborhood as well.
