Surveillance Footage Released in Hopes of Solving a 2018 Homicide

SAN JOSE, California—Police have finally released home-security footage to the public in hopes of generating tips that can lead to a break in a 2018 homicide where a Vietnamese man was shot in broad daylight by three men trying to burglarize his home, according to Mercury News.

54-year-old Khanh Kieu was shot and killed inside his Misty Glen Court home in the city’s Slyvandale neighborhood on June 21, 2018. Footage from Kieu’s neighbor’s surveillance camera released Monday, shows three men in a black 2012ish Lexus ES350 sedan pulling up to the front of the house.

The driver and suspected shooter is described as an overweight male and can be seen carrying a handgun. For investigative purposes, the footage only shows the three men and the Lexus ES350.

According to Mercury News, police spokesman Sgt. Christian Camarillo stated there is no indication the assailants knew the 54-year-old victim and that the three men might not have been expecting anyone to be home when they attempted to burglarize the house.

“There’s no relation between the men and all indications are that it’s a random burglary,” Camarillo said.

“We’ve exhausted all leads and we’re asking for the public’s assistance to try and identify these suspects,” he said.

Kieu emigrated from Vietnam in 2013 and had been a doctor there, according to family members at the time.

Anyone with information about Kieu’s killing can contact Detective Sgt. John Cary or Detective Elizabeth Ramirez at 408-277-5283, email Cary at 2989@sanjoseca.gov, or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-7867 or at svcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
