CHICAGO, Illinois—A Chicago man has been charged with the savage murder of 59-year-old Rae Park, who was fatally shot during a robbery on December 1; the morning of his daughter’s 23rd birthday.
23-year-old Julius Flowers has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of robbery with a firearm, reports FOX32 Chicago.
Flowers, who had pending firearm cases, was arrested earlier this month after allegedly carjacking a driver at gunpoint in Rogers Park. He later confessed to police that he murdered another robbery victim, according to FOX32.
Flowers and another carjacking suspect, 22-year-old Isaiah Walker, were both ordered to be held without bail in connection to the Rogers Park carjacking that occurred on the same day 59-year-old Park was shot and killed.
Park was walking out of his apartment at about 7:06 a.m. on December 1 to his minivan. Seconds later, a four-door sedan pulled up in an alley in the 2600 block of West Catalpa Street.
Flowers allegedly got out of the car and announced a robbery. He then shot Park and left the scene, reports FOX32.
Park was transported to Saint Francis Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Flowers is currently being processed and held at Cook County Jail. Cook County alone has already topped 1,000 homicides in 2021, marking the first time the county has surpassed that number since 1994.
