HOUSTON, TX—Authorities need the public’s help identifying an African-American male suspect who violently attacked and robbed an Asian woman and left her paralyzed.
Nhung Truong was attacked by an African-American male in his early 20s on February 13.
Detectives say Truong had withdrawn money from a Bank of America on Blackhawk Boulevard near the Beltway and was followed by the suspect for 24 miles to a shopping center on the 9800 block of Bellaire.
Surveillance footage shows Truong dropping her belongings on the ground and the man running away with what he thought was an envelope filled with cash. Seconds later, the assailant returned, picked up Truong, and body-slammed her to the ground.
The savage attack damaged the 44-year-old woman’s spinal cord and left her paralyzed. Truong is unable to walk or use the bathroom by herself. Now, the single mom has to rely on a wheelchair and help from her three kids who are 13, 15, and 20 years old and still in school, reports FOX26.
Family members told FOX26 the suspect stole around $4,300 from them. Truong had been saving up money to visit her family in Vietnam that she hadn’t seen in nearly six years.
Truong’s mother, Nu, was brought to tears after hearing what happened to her daughter. Truong lost her husband to liver cancer seven years ago.
After the attack, doctors told Truong she only has a 50-percent chance to fully cover.
HPD described the suspect as a Black male in his early 20s, standing at approximately 5’8″ and weighing 140 lbs. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
