SEATTLE, WA—An Asian woman who was eight months pregnant died after an African-American man shot her multiple times while she was sitting inside her Tesla at an intersection in Seattle on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old female victim, now identified as Elina Kwon by journalist Jonathan Choe, was shot multiple times and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her 32-week unborn child did survive for a period of time but also died.
The woman’s husband, 37-year-old Sung Kwon was also shot and is expected to recover. According to KOB4, a man approached the Tesla, fired at the driver’s side window and door with a pistol, and ran away.
The shooter, now identified as 30-year-old Cordell Maurice Goosby, was arrested soon after the shooting. When officers approached him, he allegedly raised his arms and said, “I did it, I did it,” according to police.
Goosby told police he saw a firearm inside Kwon’s vehicle and reacted by shooting. Police found no gun in Kwon’s car and Goosby also has a history of mental illness.
According to Jonathan Choe, the Kwons own a popular restaurant near Pike Place Market called Aburiya Bento House, which is located a few blocks from the shooting.
The African-American suspect was taken into custody, and a judge found probable cause to hold him on investigation of homicide, assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
