COLUMBUS, OH—An African-American male suspect, Arthur Scott Jr., is facing charges of kidnapping, rape, and murder in a homicide case from Friday. He was arraigned in court Monday morning.
Columbus police were called to a hotel on the 6000 block of Zumstein Drive just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday on a report of a person found dead, according to FOX28.
Police discovered 61-year-old Li-Chu Lin naked and suffering from multiple traumatic injuries from what is described as a “brutal attack.” Lin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified Scott over the weekend and arrested him on charges of murder, rape, and kidnapping. Surveillance footage captured Scott in the hotel’s hallway trying doors to see if they were unlocked before entering a room a short time before Lin.
Video footage later showed Scott leaving the room without a hat he was wearing earlier, which was later found at the scene, reports FOX28.
Court records stated Scott is accused of physically and sexually assaulting Lin several times.
Many of Lin’s family members came to the arraignment on Monday, including her husband who became emotionally distraught while reading a statement. He explained Scott shattered their American dream.
“There is no bond high enough,” Lin’s husband said. “We need to protect our citizens.”
“I have to say, in my period on the bench, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything this hideous,” the judge stated while almost breaking out in tears herself.
Scott’s bond was set at $2 million. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7. He is currently being held at Franklin County Jail.
