Two Employees Shot Dead at West Virginia Nail Salon

July 30, 2022

SUMMERSVILLE, WV—Police in Summersville say that a man opened fire in a nail salon on Thursday evening, killing two people before he was shot dead by police officers.

Just after 6:30 p.m., on July 28, 52-year-old Patrick Wayne Cater shot 45-year-old Khuyen Van Le and 40-year-old Phi Anh Le at Jo’s Nails and Spa.

Two officers arrived at the scene and shot Cater after a brief shootout. Authorities say Cater was armed with a pistol.

The victims died at the scene and Cater was pronounced dead at Summersville Regional Medical Center, according to Metro News.

The shooting in West Virginia marks the latest in a series of incidents at nail salons in the United States.

In a separate incident in Texas last month, a woman allegedly shot a nail salon owner during a dispute over prices. The 42-year-old Asian male victim was left in serious but stable condition.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, two women were unhappy with the price of their services and began arguing with the owner. When he attempted to push one of them from the store, one of the women shot him.

In June, a woman angry over services rendered at a nail salon in Newark, New Jersey, started biting people on the premises, including an employee.

Summersville Police have yet to release a photo of Cater or provide a motive behind the attack. An investigation is ongoing.
