Vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris released a cartoon video via Twitter on Saturday, November 1, in which she narrates a message for “equality of outcome,” a hallmark message for Communism.
The cartoon video featured two men—one black and one white—both at the bottom of a mountain staring up. Both men are given the same length of rope. However, the black man is at the bottom of a cliff and unable to reach the rope.
Senator Harris narrates, “So there’s a big difference between equality and equity. Equality suggests, ‘Oh everyone should get the same amount.’”
“The problem with that is, not everybody’s starting out from the same place. So if we’re all getting the same amount but you started out back there and I started out over here, we could get the same amount, but you’re still going to be that far back behind me,” she goes on to explain in the cartoon video.
As Harris narrates, the ground beneath the black man rises up and allows him to reach the rope and then reach the mountain’s summit.
“It’s about giving people the resources and support they need so that everyone can be on equal footing, and then compete on equal footing. Equitable treatment means we all end up at the same place,” Senator Harris explained.
Unfortunately, the world is not fair and there will never be equality of outcome. Equality of opportunity is all that an advanced society can safeguard. I will never be a center guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, I’m only 6’1. According to Harris’ logic, does that mean the team is going to have to make special rules and lower standards, so I can successfully become a center guard because we’re shooting for equal outcome?
Equality of outcome is the type of mindset that now jeopardizes elite high schools throughout the United States in which only the best and brightest students can enter. These schools are slowly destroying their admission policies and lowering their standards because “too many Asians kids are smarter and that’s not fair.”
Would that argument work if people started saying “Too many black people in the NBA and NFL and that’s not fair”? Would those very same people who go after merit-based admissions in higher learning argue for more Asians in the NBA or NFL or is it just a one-sided argument?
The fact of the matter is, people are different. There are differences in culture, athletic ability, home environment, intelligence. Not everyone can be a rocket scientist, not everyone can sing like Whitney Houston, not everyone can play ball like LeBron James. Are we to punish all those individuals and bring them down multiple levels, so more Americans can be on the same equal footing as a rocket scientist or LeBron James?
