WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senate Democrats voted against an amendment on Thursday to prohibit federal funds for colleges that discriminate against Asian-Americans.
Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz added Amendment SA 1456 into the “COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act.” The original bill was introduced by Hawaii Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono, which was designed to “designate [an] officer or employee of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to facilitate the expedited review of COVID-19 hate crimes and reports of COVID-19 hate crimes,” according to the Daily Caller.
Sen. Cruz’s amendment would prohibit federal funds for higher education institutions that discriminate against Asian-Americans. Basically, the amendment would withhold federal funding to any institution that has “a policy in place or engages in a practice that discriminates against Asian-Americans in recruitment, applicant review, or admissions,” according to the amendment text.
Every Senate Democrat voted against Cruz’s amendment, which needed 60 votes (3/5) to pass. However, the vote ended with 49-48. It’s the policy of the Democratic Party to punish merit and successful Asian-Americans. Intelligence is a myth and a “form of white supremacy.”
Asian-American students do not perform better than other minority groups. However, they do perform better than other minority groups, therefore, their admissions must actively be capped in favor of less qualified students.
If that doesn’t make any sense—it’s not supposed to. The argument for-and-against Asian discrimination in higher education intersects with admitting and denying Asian academic superiority exists.
Sen. Cruz was one of six Republicans who initially opposed the “COVID 19 Hate Crimes Act,” introduced by Hirono and Democratic New York Rep. Grace Meng in March. However, Sen. Cruz wanted to add his amendment and test to see if the Democrats really cared about Asian-Americans. If they did, they would have voted in favor of withholding federal funds to all institutions actively discriminating against Asian applicants.
Cruz told The Houston Chronicle the bill “is not designed to do anything to prevent or punish actual crimes. It is instead a Democratic messaging vehicle designed to push the demonstrably false idea that it is somehow racist to acknowledge that Covid-19 originated in Wuhan, China and that the Chinese Communist Party actively lied and suppressed information about the outbreak, allowing it to become a global pandemic.”
Sen. Cruz continued to state, “When Democrats decide to take hate and racism seriously, that means they will address this and not ignore it because it doesn’t fit neatly into their messaging tactics.”
The “COVID-19, Hate Crimes Act” passed in the Senate with a vote of 94-1 on Thursday, with only Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley opposing.
