NEW YORK CITY—Another two Asian-Americans have been attacked once again. A 15-year-old boy was called racial slurs by a group of teens and beaten in Queens. A 52-year-old woman was nearly pushed onto subway tracks in Brooklyn—both happened on Saturday, May 1.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force are currently investigating both incidents, according to the New York Post.
The 15-year-old victim was sitting at 62-01 99th Street in Flushing when he was approached by a group of five teenagers around 3 p.m.
One of the teens then asked, “What the f**k you looking at, Ching Chong?”
The 15-year-old Asian boy got up and asked the teens to leave him alone, but they instead began punching him in the head and ended up beating him down. The victim was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital in stable condition, reports the New York Post.
Three of the five teenagers—ages 18, 15, and 14—were apprehended. They were charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment with hate-crimes charges possibly being added later. Two more suspects are still on the loose.
Also on Saturday, a 52-year-old Asian woman was attacked at the Myrtle Avenue and Broadway subway station in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3:25 p.m., according to the NYPD.
“A Good Samaritan prevented her from falling onto the tracks,” a spokesman for the NYPD stated.
The suspect fled the station and is currently being sought. The victim speaks limited English and wasn’t sure what type of insults the woman was saying, according to the New York Post.
