NEW SOUTH WALES, Australia—A New South Wales police employee has been found guilty over an indecent assault of a 13-year-old Asian girl in a Sydney train station elevator, according to 7News.
54-year-old Glenn Roche, a civilian employee in the police force, assaulted the 13-year-old at Cabramatta—a Sydney suburb with a huge Vietnamese population—back in July 2019 while she was sightseeing with her family.
Roche can be seen on CCTV footage chasing the girl into an elevator before repeatedly groping her. The girl can then be seen sliding to the ground as the 54-year-old towers over her, reports 7News.
Thankfully, the girl managed to escape and immediately told her mother what happened.
While being interviewed by police, Roche told officers “my hands have slid up her body, as she slid to the ground. So there would have been some sort of contact without doubt. Certainly no sexual gratification on my behalf.”
Roche continued to state, “She contributed to that occurring by releasing her body weight and sliding through my hands.”
Earlier this week, Roche tried explaining to the Liverpool Court magistrate that chasing the girl into the elevator was “just a game.”
“My mind has gone off on a tangent like, this is a challenge, to me, I can get her and give her a kiss on the cheek like her two sisters and mum,” he stated in the police interview.
The magistrate did not accept Roche’s explanation and found him guilty of indecent assault.
The 13-year-old victim told the court Roche’s actions were more than an unwanted kiss. She explained as she cowered under him, he squeezed her left breast twice, according to 7News.
The young victim continued to state to the court that she has nightmares and lives in fear it will happen again.
Roche will be sentenced in August.
