December 11, 2021

COLUMBUS, Georgia—Amit Patel, 45, a Chevron gas station owner was shot dead Monday morning at 10:09 a.m. on December 6, while attempting to make a deposit at Synovus Bank on Buena Vista Road. The building also houses the Columbus Police Department’s east precinct.

Columbus police almost immediately responded to the scene along with EMS, however, they were unable to resuscitate Patel, who was pronounced dead at the front door of the bank, reports ABC9 WTVM.

Patel was actually on his way to celebrate his 3-year-old daughter’s birthday after making his weekly bank deposit.

“This was typical. He usually makes the deposit on Monday for the week after the weekends,” Amit’s business partner, Vinnie Patel, stated. “She will never forget what happened to her father on her birthday.”

Amit leaves behind a wife and daughter.

According to his GoFundMe page, “Amit was one of the most loving, calm, gentle souls we knew and if you had the opportunity to meet him you would know the warmth of a great man and father.”
